Illustrated Children's Literature in the Music Classroom

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to enhance the music teaching and learning process by analyzing illustrated children’s literature for use in the elementary music classroom as a tool for empowering and energizing teachers and students as they engage in the process of developing music skills and understanding music concepts.  To that end, this project consists of descriptions of eleven children’s books, with lesson plans and suggested activities for use with six of them in the music classroom. Along with use with my own students, I hope these descriptions and activities will be useful to other teachers.
