Jeanne T. Tyszka
The purpose of this study was to provide music educators with an analysis of the format, philosophy, choices of music literature, learning sequence, objectives, and National Standards implementation presented in grades kindergarten and one in the Silver Burdett Making Music (2002a, 2002b) textbook series, and to provide a similar analysis of the Kodály approach to music education as presented by the authors and master teachers Choksy (1974, 1981, 1988, 1999a, 1999b), Daniel (1978, 1981, 2000), Eisen and Robertson (1996, 1997), Forrai (1988), and Tacka and Houlahan (1995a). The goal of the study was to provide guidance for Kodály trained teachers who wish to make informed choices regarding lesson selection in the Silver Burdett Making Music (2002a, 2002b) textbook series.
