Chantons Tout Le Monde! A Collection of French Language Folk Songs Arranged for Beginning Choir at Normandale French Immersion School
Evelyn Emerson
Abstract

French-language choral literature suitable for elementary school choirs is a necessity for a music program at a French Immersion school. Existing choral literature in French is often too difficult for beginning choirs or has texts unsuitable for elementary school students. The purpose of this project was to create a collection of two-part choral octavos based on French-language folk songs suitable for elementary choir, grades three, four, and five.

Nine traditional folk songs from France and French-speaking Canada were selected and arranged for two-part treble voices with piano accompaniment by the author for use with elementary choir. For each song, in addition to the octavo, the following features are provided: (a) information about the song's origin; (b) the notation of the folksong upon which the two-part arrangement is made; (c) analysis of the folksong; (d) a text translation; (e) a set of teaching ideas, and (f) the source for the song.
