An Examination of Male Enrollment in High School Choral Music Programs in the State of Minnesota
Christopher John Russell
The topic of male enrollment in choral education has received little attention from authors, researchers, and the choral profession. The most recent quantitative study on male choral enrollment was held fifteen years ago, and a current study on the topic was needed. The purpose of this study was to examine male enrollment in high school choral music programs in the state of Minnesota. to this end, a survey instrument was used to examine the ratio of female to male high school choral enrollment, and to identify strategies that could be used to increase male enrollment. the data analyses were based on the 260 valid surveys completed by Minnesota high school choir directors and returned to the researcher.
