Incorporating Japanese Music Into an Orff Schulwerk Based Curriculum
The purpose of this study is to determine ways in which Japanese folk music can be successfully utilized within an Orff Schulwerk based curriculum. Orff Schulwerk is an approach to music education developed by the German composer and educator Carl Orff (1895-1982). the present study involved transferring Japanese songs to Orff instruments while retaining the unique harmonic sense of Japanese music, and using and implementing elements of Orff Schulwerk. The study seeks to discover ways in which identifiable aspects of Japanese culture were maintained in addition to evidence as to it's impact on the children. In addition, I sought information about the effectiveness of the Orff Schulwerk approaches as well.
