Listening Experiences with the Fifth Grade Teacher: A Vision for Music in the General Classroom
Vicki A. Kanne
The purpose of this study was to create directed music listening lessons for teachers to use in their classrooms, beyond the lessons taught by the music specialist. The idea for this study grew out of assessment practices at William Byrne Elementary School in Burnsville, Minnesota. classroom teachers are responsible for giving an effort grade in music, in addition to a grade given by the music specialist. the teachers are expected to be proficient in all basic subject areas. Burdened by full teaching loads and the constant bombardment of new curricula, most teachers are frustrated in their efforts to teach music. they have been required to teach and grade music, but have not been provided with adequate resources.
