Of Roots and Wings: The Application of Theories of Musical Intelligence and Creativity in the Classroom
Ann Carpenter Kay
This synthesis project was written as a personal journey to clarify my own philosophy of teaching music to children. My study of the music classroom actually begins with broader questions about American society. I am intrigued by the conflict between the American pursuit of individual rights and individuals' responsibility to others within a community. How do American learn to compromise personal needs for the greater common good? How do we learn to work cooperatively? How does one teach a sense of social responsibility to balance the possible excesses of total individual freedom?
