Echoes of Home: History and Contributions of the Ojibwe People in Minnesota
Jeanette Paffel Andersen
"Ojibwe People in Minnesota" is a unit I am writing as part of a larger project being developed for use in elementary schools as a resource for multicultural/multi ethnic studies. The project, Echoes of Home, is intended to give students an appreciation of the contributions of people from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds that make up the population of the United States. Many history books would make it seem that our country developed in an all white, Anglo-Saxon society. Little mention is made of contributions of those from various other cultural backgrounds, other than in footnotes or recommendations for further study at the end of the book. I am inspired to develop this project in order to enrich my students' education with an accurate accounting of American History.
