Selected Recordings Influential for Jazz Transcription: A Jazz Listening Library for Developing Jazz Band Students
Jennifer Michelle Tiede
Abstract
The intent of this project was to provide the resource of a jazz listening library for jazz educators to provide authentic listening opportunities for beginning and developing jazz students. The main objective was to introduce young jazz students to historically influential jazz musicians representing each instrument of the jazz band, along with selected recordings for deeper listening and solos for use of transcription. The project also investigated how listening provides models of sound, introduces jazz vocabulary, and develops harmonic accuracy for jazz improvisation.
