Sing, move, clap, dance, improvise, jam, play congas, recorders, and Orff instruments. Perform a great variety of kid tested pieces, then analyze the process utilized in teaching each piece.

Dr. John Feierabend is considered one of the leading authorities on music and movement development in early childhood. He is a Professor of Music and the Director of the Music Education Division at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford and is a past President of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. Dr. Feierabend makes frequent presentations both in the United States and abroad and is the author of over 60 books, articles, CDs, DVDs and videotapes.

One of the essential tenets of the Schulwerk is that kids be allowed, encouraged, and expected to have a sense of ownership when learning concepts or performing pieces. Ownership offers opportunities for the student to achieve mastery and artistry. BUT, how do you get there, and how do you get your students there? During this workshop participants will explore ways to tailor lessons for their students' specific needs. Through movement, drama, singing, and playing activities, participants will discover new ways to present information to studens in order to make it their own.

This workshop explores ways to teach choral music to children's choirs while presenting and practicing musical literacy. Participants will receive helpful tips on polishing music for performance, including instructions in vowel and consonant production, as well as, solutions for common choral challenges. A packet of music appropriate for young choirs will serve as repertoire for the day.

Starting with babies and toddlers in the parent/child music class setting, we'll move on up through preschool, kindergarten and elementary aged children. Discover ways to use movement to strengthen musical skills, increase musicality and create avenues for creativity and growth.

Process for obtaining graduate credit from the University of St. Thomas:
Attend three Kodály, three Orff, or a combination of three Orff and Kodály Saturday workshops. Chapter Sharing workshops are excluded from graduate credit.
OR
Attend at least five Piano Pedagogy workshops during the annual summer workshop week held in June.
OR
Attend an orchestra concert, an opera, and spend time in the museum - including pre and post sessions - during the annual Opera, MN Orchestra, and Weisman Art Museum teacher workshops held in April.
AND
Write a brief description of each session. Include:

Identify the salient points presented
Discuss how the topic and presentation may or may not inform or impact your teaching.
Papers must be double-spaced and typed in Times New Roman or Times font.
