The Benefits of Private & Group Piano Instruction for Older Adults Living in Retirement Communities

Newer research shows that the performing of music has a positive impact on brain health, as well as physical and emotional health. These discoveries have permeated our society, as the population seeks to avert some effects of aging. This paper offers a resource for piano teachers needing background information and a rationale for starting a program of piano instruction for older adults living in a community setting. This program could take the form of private lessons, group lessons, or an academic enrichment program with a finite number of classes.
