Music and Language: A Plan for Kindergarten Music that Emphasizes Music Literacy and Its Connection

The purpose of the project is to investigate the relationship between music literacy and literacy learning in the other disciplines. By analyzing eh Kindergarten Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, many similarities and parallels can be drawn between language literacy and music literacy. I have created six plans based on the Kindergarten musical concepts of steady beat, fast/slow, loud/quiet, high/low, long/short, and same/different. They contain many strategies based on Zoltan Kodaly's philosophy of prepare, present, and practice. They also address the different modes of learning: physical, visual, and aural.
