The intent of this thesis was to write a biographical study of Jill Trinka's contributions to Kodály-inspired teaching in the United States, specifically her work with folk music and its application in the elementary music classroom. The research that follows addresses the role of folk music in Trinka's life, beginning with her childhood and concluding with her present-day life and work. Her instrumental training, studies in Hungary as a Kodály-inspired teacher are all addressed. This study further explores Trinka's graduate work about folk song performance style, her workshops on folk music, her collection of folk song volumes, her involvement in improving school music series textbooks, and her leadership in various Kodály Institutes in the United States. Trinka's impact as a professor of music education, president of the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and instructor and performer of folk music are examined along with her current endeavors in the field of music education.
