Beyond Singing: Expanding the Choral Classroom with Piano Lessons Modeled on Informal Learning Theor

This study investigates a model that supports the use of informal learning techniques—specifically, the Musical Futures Project—and considers how these ideas can be adapted for use in a traditional choir classroom. In this paper, the theoretical framework—one that is inclusive of students’ music preferences and incorporates small group work—manifests as a unit-plan for learning piano skills within the regularly structured choir rehearsal time.
