Samuel Fouts is the director of the University of St. Thomas Liturgical Choir and Schola Cantorum. Samuel graduated summa cum laude from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he studied Vocal Music Education under Dr. Julie Hagen and Dr. Michael Culloton and sang in The Concordia Choir under Dr. René Clausen and Michael Smith.

From Concordia, he went on to receive a Master of Music in Choral Studies with distinction from the University of Cambridge. There he sang in and conducted choirs at Selwyn and King’s Colleges while studying conducting, musicology, and the Anglican choral tradition under Sarah MacDonald, Stephen Layton, Graham Ross, Mark Williams, and Edward Wickham, among others.

Samuel has had a varied career as a church musician, serving Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal, and Anglican congregations in the Twin Cities, Fargo, and Cambridge, England, including the Catholic Chaplaincy of the University of Cambridge. He has long been a champion of young composers, leading dozens of premieres on both sides of the Atlantic.
