Presented by Matt McCoy

Come bring your energy and enthusiasm as we explore many possibilities for integrating recorder with an Orff Schulwerk approach to general music instruction. Participants will experience process-based lessons emphasizing the development of recorder technique, improvisation, composition, and ensemble playing combined with a variety of elemental media (e.g., speech, singing, percussion instruments) and movement. Participants should bring a soprano recorder to this workshop and other voices (alto, tenor, bass) are welcome.

Matt McCoy teaches elementary music and choir at the Emerson School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to his time at Emerson, Matt worked in various educational contexts including public and independent schools, children’s choir organizations, and universities in both the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions of the United States. As a clinician specializing in process-based teaching, he is a frequent clinician at AOSA National Conferences and at local chapter meetings around the United States. Matt also teaches on the faculties of the Orff teacher certification programs at George Mason University, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Los Angeles course.
