Guest organist Daria Burlak to perform recital at the University of St. Thomas on October 6.
Russian organ virtuoso Daria Burlak will perform a recital at the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday, October 6 at 2 PM. The free recital is sponsored by the University of St. Thomas music department’s Organ Artist Series. Ms. Burlak will perform works of Pierné, Tournemire, Alain, Florentz, and Messiaen. A reception honoring the artist will follow the recital.
A rising star in the organ world, Daria Burlak was born in 1986 in Vladivostok, Russia. A specialist in solo and chamber music piano performance, as well as organ performance, Ms. Burlak studied at the Cologne Conservatory of Music, receiving two diplomas with distinction as both concert organist and concert pianist in 2010 and obtaining the Master of Music degree in organ and piano performance in 2012. Daria Burlak played several times in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall and performed as part of international festivals such as Internationale Orgelwoche Nürnberg - Musica Sacra, Orgelfestival Limburg and played piano and organ recitals in Germany, France, Holland, Sweden, Lithuania and Russia. Recitals were broadcast on Radio France, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Radio of Russia.
Daria Burlak is the winner of the 6th International Mikael Tariverdiev Organ Competition (Hamburg, Germany - Worcester, MA - Moscow - Kaliningrad) as well as the winner of the second Grand Prix and the prize of the youngest soloist at the International Organ Competition Ville de Paris in 2007. This will be Ms. Burlak’s first tour to the U.S.
