Same Planet, Similar Wolds!

Come explore how musical skills and conceptual understandings can be nurtured in students with two different Kodaly-inspired settings. Dr. Leigh Ann Garner and Dr. Angela Broeker will present parallel lessons on the same skill/concept set first in a general music classroom and then in a children's choral rehearsal.

Dr. Broeker’s Biography: Angela Broeker is Director of Choral Activities at the University of St. Thomas where she conducts the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir and teaches choral courses for students pursing the Master of Arts in Music Education degree with a choral concentration.  Since arriving at UST in 1999, Dr. Broeker’s choirs have performed at the National ACDA convention in 2011, North Central Regional ACDA convention in 2008, MN Collegiate Choral Festival in 2009, ACDA-MN in 2004, and MMEA conventions in 2007 and 2001. In addition to her university responsibilities, Dr. Broeker presents for national, regional, and state conventions of ACDA, MENC, OAKE, and AOSA.  She serves as guest conductor for numerous honors choirs including all-state choirs in 15 states, national OAKE honor choirs, and regional ACDA honor choirs. The book she coauthored with Mary Goetze and Ruth Boshkoff, Educating Young Singers, was published in October, 2009.  She lives in St. Paul with her dog and her husband-composer, Jay.
