The UST Bands are made up of students who are serious musicians, but whose major course of study may vary from business to music to biology. The Symphonic Band is comprised of students with all types of backgrounds who enjoy the opportunity to perform with a fine college band. They study and perform standard and contemporary repertoire as well as transcriptions of other musical genres. The group meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until 3:10 p.m. and performs at concert halls throughout the Twin Cities at least twice a semester. Four semesters of performance with the group will complete a student's fine arts core requirement of four credits (one credit per semester of participation). There is no cost for participation in the ensemble, but students do receive grades that count toward their cumulative average. Larger instruments are available at no cost to students who need them.
The Symphonic Band is directed by Dr. Douglas C. Orzolek
Auditions for UST Bands are held on arrival weekend each fall and are used merely for placement purposes.
