Will Kemperman is an active freelance percussionist and member of the Rochester Symphony Orchestra. Will earned a BA in Music at Macalester College and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001, during which time he performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.  Will is currently heard in numerous musical contexts around Minnesota. He appeared recently as a featured percussionist with the National Lutheran Choir on two occasions and at the Art of Sweat Rhythm Festivals #1 and #2.  He has also performed with Vocal Essence numerous times. Performing and teaching Latin music on a weekly basis at El Milagro church, Will has also appeared in recent jazz and rock musical theater productions at the History Theatre, Hennepin Stages Theater, and Theatre L’Homme Dieu. Specializing in versatility, he also performs with the eight-member rock/R&B/blues outfit, Blue Daddies, and the Klezmer/Eastern European band, Maritza.  He is a faculty member at the University of St. Thomas, Hamline University, and Normandale Community College.   Will teaches concert percussion, mallet instruments, drum set, timpani, Afro-Cuban drumming, and percussion ensemble.

Will’s teaching philosophy is to provide a strong foundation in musical technique, theory, repertoire, and concepts while individually tailoring his approach, based on the student’s needs, vision, and learning style.
