A member of the faculty at the University of St. Thomas since 1975, Katherine Faricy has taught undergraduate piano, piano ensemble, and music literature. She also teaches graduate piano and graduate courses in performance practices, piano literature, and advanced teaching techniques in the graduate and certificate programs in piano pedagogy at St. Thomas. She is founder and director of the University of St. Thomas Music Institute for Piano Pedagogy. Faricy graduated from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music with a bachelor's degree in music education and received her master of fine arts degree in piano performance from the University of Minnesota. She also studied privately for four years with the renowned concert pianist, Madame Lili Kraus, and coached in piano ensemble with Vitya Vronsky of the famed Vronsky and Babin two-piano team. A frequent recitalist, Katherine Faricy has performed in Carnegie Recital Hall, and in many locations throughout the upper midwest. Her performances have been broadcast numerous times on Minnesota Public Radio and National Public Radio. She has appeared as a soloist iwth the Minnesota Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony, the Manchester Civic Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis, the St. Paul Civic Orchestra and the professional Festival Orchestra at the University of St. Thomas. For over thirty years, she performed regularly with James Callahan in the critically acclaimed Callahan & Faricy duo-piano team. She also performed for many years with Hanley Daws, former associate concertmaster of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, as part of the Daws/Faricy Duo. She is the author of Artistic Pedal Technique - Lessons for Intermediate and Advanced Pianists, published by Frederick Harris Music Company. |
