A native of Chicago, Illinois, Steve Cole attended Northwestern University, where he explored modern classical music for saxophone under the tutelage of Dr. Fredrick Hemke, and business at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business where he earned his MBA.

Initially classically trained, Steve was a Young Arts prize winner, and had the honor of performing as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 18.  Before focusing on his music career, Steve worked in consulting and strategy development with Bain & Company, and Baxter International, and served as Director of Finance and Administration for the Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL.

Cole's artist career began in earnest in 1998 when he was signed to Atlantic Records.  On his six subsequent major label releases (Atlantic, Warner Brothers, EMI/Blue Note) he has posted five #1 national radio hits, sold hundreds of thousands of albums, received the prestigious Prism award for best new artist, and has been featured in numerous publications including Alternative Press, Jazz Times, Radio & Records, and Billboard magazine.  In addition to his work as solo artist, Steve has performed, and or recorded, with Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Larry Carlton, Jeff Lorber, Jim Peterik, Freddie Cole, Cyrus Chestnut, KMFDM, as has been a featured soloist with the City of Prague Orchestra, and The Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Before joining the faculty of the University of St. Thomas, Steve held the position of Assistant Professor of Arts, Entertainment, & Media Management at Columbia College Chicago where he was the head of the Music Business program, and Chair of the Music Business Division at the McNally Smith College of Music.

An accomplished musician, writer, producer, and educator, Steve maintains a rigorous international touring schedule, is a sought after lecturer and clinician, and serves on the Board of Governors of the Mid-West chapter of The Recording Academy.
