I’m a native of Seville, Spain, and have been teaching Spanish language, culture, and linguistics in the US since 2001. As a researcher, my areas of expertise include Spanish phonology, sociolinguistics, and second language teaching and learning. I have conducted field, laboratory, and corpus-based research on the phonetic variation of Spanish in dialect and language contact situations. I have examined how factors such as the dialect spoken by people in our social networks, our exposure to another language at an early age, how frequently we use certain sound combinations in speech, or how we use language to define our identity affect the way we talk. In the area of second language teaching and learning, I am interested in the integration of computer-mediated and mobile-based technology for language development and assessment.
