Class: Germ 489: Opposing Hitler: German Resistance in Literature and Film (WTL) Description: This course explores different kinds of resistance and resistance literature written before, during, and after World War II. The focus of the class is the depiction of German resistance to National Socialism with an emphasis on youth groups, the July 1944 events, the catholic and protestant churches under the Hakenkreuz, and the Arbeiterbewegung. During the course of the semester, you will be introduced to different types of resistance and some of the more prominent resistance groups such as the men and women of the July 20, 1944 events, the Kreisauer Kreis, and the Rote Kapelle. We will be learning about history and historic events and analyze how those are depicted in literary texts and feature films.
