About Sergio Rial

Sergio Rial serves as executive vice president & chief financial officer of Cargill and platform leader for Cargill’s Financial Services platform. He also serves as regional director for Latin America.  He is a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, the core executive group in charge of Cargill’s overall strategy, growth and funding.  He was elected to Cargill’s Board of Directors in September 2010.

Before joining Cargill in 2004, Rial was a senior managing director and co-head of the Investment Banking Division at Bear Stearns in New York.  Prior to working at Bear Stearns, he served as a board member of Dutch bank ABN AMRO. During his 18 year tenure with ABN AMRO, he held a number of leadership positions across several different geographies including Latin America, Europe and Asia. 

Rial currently serves as executive chairman of CarVal Investors, LLC, an independently managed subsidiary of Cargill.  He also serves on the board of directors of Cyrela Brazil.

He holds an M.B.A. from the Brazilian Capital Markets Institute. Rial received a bachelor’s degree in law from the Rio de Janeiro Federal University, a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Rio de Janeiro Gama Filho University, and has completed specialization courses in management from Harvard Business School, Insead and Wharton.
