Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,
The student 'buzz' on campus will be rather quiet when spring break begins on Monday, March 19th with classes resuming on Monday, March 26th. Currently we see your students busy studying and enjoying all the opportunities offered in the Anderson Student Center and the Anderson Athletic and Recreational Complex.
Many of you are preparing for your students to be home during this time. Please plan to enjoy this time with them while recognizing that they may not be as social with you as you would wish. As you know, sometimes students need this down time to rest within the comfort of their family without being very communicative with you. Many students may want to rest after a busy week of mid-term papers, projects, and exams. Take care of yourself during this time and make plans to have a number of fun interactions with your student.
Some of your students may choose to stay on campus. Remind them to keep their residence hall directors informed of any change in their plans and also to plan for changes in university library, business, food service and recreation facility hours. If your student is traveling during spring break, we encourage you to have conversations about their plans, good decision making, and emergency contacts.
We are hearing from many students who are so excited about their plans. I join you in praying for the health and safety of all our students as they participate in spring break opportunities.

We ARE open during spring break week. This is a great time for your student to find some time to visit our office for an appointment.
The semester continues with a variety of opportunities offered to assist students with their career planning and job/internship searches.
The events section of the Career Development Center website gives details on these and other seminars, fairs and events:

Pathways to Careers in Communication: March 27. Panels of alumni discuss career options and network with students following the formal presentations.

Science Careers Expo: March 29. Employers will share career path ideas for science majors.

Minnesota Education Job Fair: April 23rd Students and alumni must register at the UST Career Development Center prior to attending.
We assist all students regardless of academic major or class year. Our services include resources for students to: help them decide a major, explore career fields/occupations, provide resume and letter critiques, practice interviewing skills, find a part-time job, internship or full-time employment, make decisions about a job offer and career transitions. Have your student call our office to schedule a free appointment or drop in during pop-in hours to ask a question.
Senior Week 2012
The Undergraduate Student Government Senior Class Council is in the process of planning a new senior week of events that will provide opportunities for our seniors to celebrate together before they leave St. Thomas. New events this year will include a senior picnic on the quad, a Twins game and a special senior only night with a wide variety of activities in the new Anderson Student Center.
It has been brought to our attention that there is a senior riverboat and after party that has been advertised to seniors by an outside group. Please note that these events are not sponsored, endorsed or affiliated with the University of St. Thomas in any way. In the past the University and senior class council have sponsored a riverboat cruise but ended that event last year due to the very limited number of students who could participate as well as concerns for student safety.
This year's senior class council is focusing on events that are inclusive of their entire class and their classmates that graduated in December. They are beginning a new tradition at St Thomas – one we know that many students will enjoy for years to come.
Financial Aid Priority Filing Date Approaching!
The St. Thomas priority filing date for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is April 1, 2012. That's only a couple of weeks away. In order to receive maximum consideration for financial aid for the 2012-2013 academic year, your student's FAFSA must be received by the Financial Aid Office and completely processed by this date. Any FAFSA received after April 1 will be accepted and processed, but some sources of funding may no longer be available.
In order for a FAFSA to be completely processed, students must provide the Financial Aid Office with any additional information that is requested, including verification documents. Any requests for additional information will be sent to your student's UST email account.

The St. Thomas Parent Network provides a link to the university for families. Think about joining the committee or volunteer for one of the activities that takes place throughout the year.
