A Message from the Director of Alumni Relations, School of Law
In June, with only 27 days left in the 2011 Annual Giving Campaign, I want to extend my gratitude to the Alumni Annual Giving Committee members for their countless hours of service to the School of Law and the alumni community. These committee members strive to secure national recognition of UST Law graduates that is well deserved. The UST alumni community is an incredibly talented and service-oriented group that deserves national recognition among law schools. Thank you to the following committee members that volunteer their service to make national recognition a reality:
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Announced Professor Rob Vischer will serve as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs starting June 1, 2011. Professor Tom Berg served the School of Law for two years as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and will be returning to the role of full-time professor. We welcome Associate Dean Visher and thank Professor Berg for his wonderful service as the Associate Dean.
Professor Nekima Levy-Pounds is Appointed Chair of Minnesota State Advisory Committee on Civil Rights and Receives Shanara Gilbert Award During the last few months, Associate Professor Nekima Levy-Pounds received recognition for her work in the community. Professor Levy-Pounds was appointed Chair of the newly formed Minnesota State Advisory Committee, established by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights at the direction of the U.S. Congress. In addition, the Executive Committee of the AALS Section on Clinical Legal Education recognized Associate Professor Levy-Pounds with the 2011 Shanara Gilbert Emerging Clinician Award for her work with the Community Justice Project under the auspices of the Interprofessional Center for Counseling and Legal Services (IPC). Recent Graduate Timothy Flynn ('11) Nominated for UST Outstanding Clinic Student of the Year Award Timothy Flynn has been nominated by the faculty and staff of the Interprofessional Center for the UST Outstanding Clinic Student of the Year award. The award will be officially confirmed by the Association of American Law Schools Section on Clinical Legal Education at its June meeting. The Clinical Section (CLEA) created the award to honor a law student at each law school who has excelled in a clinical course. The award is given annually at the completion of the academic year.
