Continue the Success of Alumni Giving

By now you should have received the inaugural Philanthropy Report: A Celebration of Mission. Thank you for your continued financial contributions to UST School of Law. Through our engagement as alumni, we advance the Law School’s mission and contribute to the success of its students.
Alumni participation has placed UST School of Law at the top of the national chart in law school annual giving for six continuous years. The goal of the 2011 Annual Giving Campaign Committee is to support the law school’s momentum in alumni giving and we seek your continued generosity and participation.
For all that participate in the 2011 campaign before December 30, 2010, we invite you to a dean’s breakfast on January 26, 2011 at 7:30 a.m. at the School of Law. Please join me as the School of Law recognizes and thanks the alumni leaders who kick-off the 2011 campaign with a strong start.

Law Alumna Katie Tinucci (’09) Named Press Secretary for Gov. Mark Dayton
2009 UST Law alumna Katharine Tinucci has been appointed Press Secretary for Governor-elect Mark Dayton. Tinucci currently serves as Communications Director for the Transition, and served as Deputy Campaign Manager of Dayton’s campaign. She is an attorney, a graduate of Loyola University Chicago and a 2009 graduate of the University of St. Thomas School of Law.
Tinucci was one of several senior administrative positions announced last week, all of whom are women. Additional senior staff will be announced later this week. Governor-elect Dayton and his administration will officially begin their roles on January 3rd, 2011. More…

2010 Bar Passage Rates Place School of Law Test Takers Second
The Minnesota Bar Board of Examiners announced the results for the July 2010 Bar. This year, University of St. Thomas School of Law test takers were second in the first-time test taker category behind the University of Minnesota and ahead of Hamline in third and William Mitchell in fourth.
The University of St. Thomas School of law posted an overall bar passage rate of 90.32 percent and a first-time bar passage rate of 93.91 percent. The overall bar passage rate was 90.86 percent for all takers.
The first time bar passage rate increased over last year, along with the overall bar passage rate. The overall passage rate for all July 2010 exam takers also increased over 2009’s passage rate.
Congratulations to ABA Regional Negotiation Champions
The team of Jihone Du ('11) and Tim Flynn ('11) out-negotiated teams from throughout the Upper Midwest and won the American Bar Association Law Student Division Regional Negotiation Competition this fall. As regional champions, Du and Flynn will now move on to Atlanta, GA, and the national championship which will be held on February 11-12 in conjunction with the ABA’s mid-winter convention.
