How to Use the MaRC

The Mathematics Resource Center (MaRC) is a wonderful place to study and get help with your mathematics homework and test preparation but sometimes can be a little overwhelming on the first visit. Check these hints out before your first visit.

  • Drop-in during any open hour
    • Sign in with your first name and course #.
  • Tutors are stationed at desks and should be wearing nametags.
  • Find a seat at a table and get out your math book, homework, and class notes.
  • Start studying your math assignment.
    • Enjoy a piece of candy, too.
  • When you have a question, either
    • Go to a desk to ask a tutor a question, or
    • Ask a tutor to come help you at the table.
  • Please be mindful that others are needing help at the same time, so be prepared when you ask for help with a short question or series of questions.
  • Some times it gets so busy that the noise level increases, if you need more quiet try visiting the quiet study room in OSS236.
  • If you want to check answers to homework problems, then ask a tutor for a solution manual – the deposit of a UST ID is required.
    • Manuals cannot leave the MaRC.
  • Help with Mathematica is available from any tutor – just ask.
  • Some tutors specialize in different courses or are new to working at the MaRC, so you may need to work with more than one tutor.
  • Feel free to create a study group to work together in the MaRC or nearby math classrooms. OSS214 is available afternoons. OSS226 & 227 later in the day.
  • When finished studying, pack up all of your personal belongings.
    • Come back again!
