Mathematics Education Program

Required for all majors:

  • MATH 113 and MATH 114 (Calculus I and II)
  • MATH 200 (Multi-Variable Calculus)
  • MATH 210 (Introduction to Differential Equations and Systems)
  • MATH 240 (Linear Algebra)
  • MATH 301 (Abstract Algebra I)
  • MATH 317 (Real Analysis

Beyond the courses required for all majors, include the following:

  • Math 325 (Geometry)
  • MATH 450 (Advanced Mathematics: Exploration & Exposition)

      Either:

  • MATH 303 (Statistics for the Applied Sciences) and 1 additional course numbered 300 or above

      Or:

  • MATH 313 (Probability) and MATH 314 (Mathematical Statistics)

Consider a selection of additional courses that apply mathematics to other fields.

For those who are considering the possibility of teaching the elementary grades and who have a real interest in mathematics and science, we have the special SMEE major (Science and Mathematics for Elementary Education), which is described in the School of Education catalog
