System Requirements for Viewing Streaming Video

The following describes Microsoft® Windows Media™ Player and Quicktime Player system requirements for:

  • Windows Media Player 9 for Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP
  • Quicktime Player 7 for Macintosh OS X
  • Quicktime Player 7 for Windows 2000 & Windows XP

Windows Media Player 9 System Requirements

Minimum

  • A 233 megahertz (MHz) processor, such as an Intel Pentium II or Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) processor
  • 64 MB RAM
  • 100 MB Free Hard Disk Space
  • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
  • 56-Kbps modem
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or Netscape Navigator 4.7

Recommended

  • Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional (some features require these operating systems)
  • A 500 MHz processor or faster
  • 128 MB RAM
  • Approximately 300 MB to use System Restore
  • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
  • 56 Kbps or faster, Broadband is Recommended
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 or Netscape Navigator 7.0
    Note To support embedding digital media in a Web page, Netscape Navigator 6.x and 7.0 must be used only with the Java 2 Runtime Environment version 1.3.x.

Quicktime Player 7 for Mac OS X System Requirements

Minimum

  • 400 MHz G3 processor or faster
  • At least 128 MB of RAM
  • Mac OS X Upgrade OS X

Quicktime Player 7 for Windows 2000 & Windows XP System Requirements

Minimum

  • A Pentium processor-based PC or compatible computer
  • At least 128MB of RAM
  • Windows 2000/XP
