Fr. Edward Keenan Collection
of Theatre Programs

SCOPE AND CONTENT:

Fr. Edward Keenan (1906 – 1966) was a professor of English at the College of St. Thomas from 1934 until 1960. One of his life-long passions was the theater. From his teenage years, he collected playbills and souvenir programs from the performances he attended. His collection was given to the Department of Special Collections in 1984 from his estate.

The collection contains items dating from 1920 – 1966 with the bulk of the programs from years 1932 – 1955. The majority of the playbills are from performances seen in St. Paul / Minneapolis theatres. However a good number are from theatres in New York City, London and Chicago, IL.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by title of the performance. The location(s) where the production was performed is noted in parentheses after the title if known.
