Computers

There are over 100 computers in the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library available for coursework or personal use, located on Level 1, Lower Level, and Sublevel.  Most computers require an active UST username and password to log on.  Most of the computers are pc's; there are four Apple computers on the Lower Level, by the printers. Four "open access" computers on Level 1 do not require a UST login.  For information on the locatons and hours of other St. Thomas computing facilities, see IRT's Facilities/Labs page.

Wireless access

Wireless access is available throughout the library.  Signal strength is particularly strong on Level 2 and Lower Level, as well as on the patio outside the library.  Anyone who has an active UST username and password can connect to the wireless network, once they have registered.  You cannot print directly from the wireless network, but you may transfer files from your laptop to a public network computer for printing by using a USB key or by saving them to your U: drive.  See IRT's Wireless @ UST FAQ for technical requirements and other important information.

Computer assistance

Trained students at the Level 1 and Lower Level service desks can assist you with your technology questions.  Student staff wear IRT name badges - watch for them!  You can also contact the UST Tech Desk, (651) 962-6230, with your technology questions.

Laptop connections

You can connect your laptop to the UST network in the following locations:

  • Level 1: the area outside the O'Shaughnessy Room (6 jacks), and the O'Shaughnessy Room.
  • Level 4: the group study rooms 409/410, 411/412, 413/414, 421, and 422.

Network cables to plug in laptops are available for in-library use at the Reserve Desk on Level 1.

Scanners

There are four computers on the Lower Level with scanners for use by the St. Thomas community.

Open access computers

There are a few open access computers in the public computing area on Level 1: look for the light green signs.  You do not need a St. Thomas username and password to use these machines.  Ask at the reference desk if you need assistance.

Group study rooms

There are several group study rooms with computers in the library.  These computers have software similar to the computers in computing labs (Word, Excel, etc.); however, they are not able to print.

Computer Classrooms: Room 208 and Room 314

  • Room 208 can be reserved through Request for Services for instructors who wish to incorporate technology into their course sessions.  The room offers 32 PCs, 1 printer, and one PC instructor station.
  • Room 314 is generally used by library staff for library instruction and research presentations.

Assistive technology workstations

One assistive technology workstation is on Level 1, near the upright display case, and the other is in Room 308.  They offer hardware and software designed to meet the needs of our assistive technology users.  The scanners at these workstations are for assistive technology only and are NOT available for general use.
