Databases & Indexes with CentralSearch TIPS
CentralSearch searches across resources, a type of all-in-one search. Select a category below for more subject-specific searching. Quicksearch searches multidisciplinary journals, newspapers, magazines, and CLICnet.
* denotes no CentralSearch available for that subject. Search each database individually.
CentralSearch Tips:
Basics:
- CentralSearch is a good place to start your research. It is not the best resource to complete your research.
- Use CentralSearch to search several databases at one time.
- Use CentralSearch and UST research databases to find articles in newspapers, magazines, and journals, and books, dvds, scores, and cds in CLICnet.
- Use CentralSearch to help determine the best database for more in-depth research. Then link directly to that database.
- Not all UST research databases are included in CentralSearch.
- Limiting your search to 4-5 databases at a time in one subject area is a better and quicker search than searching all databases at once.
- CentralSearch can include CLICnet results.
Hints:
- Use quotes to search for specific phrases, rather than the same words in random order.
- The more specific you are, the better your results. For example, "global warming" and "economic impact" is a better search than "global warming."
- This is a new technology. Try different approaches when searching. Switch from searching keyword to title searches for different results.
- If you are doing in-depth research on a topic, you will get better results if you use a database directly.
Things to remember:
- The technology behind CentralSearch will not work with all UST research databases.
- In-depth research is best done directly in a database instead of using CentralSearch.
- More searching features are allowed and understood in a database's native interface.
