  • Addiction search
    This is an excellent site for information on addictive behavior.  Some of the categories included are statistics, populations, treatment, prevention, etc.

  • American Psychological Association
    This is the official home page of the American Psychological Association.  In addition to providing information on the association and its members, it provides access to other resources on the WWW of interest to those doing psychological research. Check out the resources they have to offer including PsycCAREERS and KidsPSYCH.

  • The Archives of the History of American Psychology
    This Web site identifies resources available in the University of Akron's archive.  Materials are not available full-text, but it provides information on how to access them.

  • Child Welfare Information Gateway
    An excellent site which provides "information on the prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect and related child welfare issues." 

  • Community Psychology Network Library
    A comprehensive guide to the field of community psychology, prevention, intervention, and action research.  It is developed for the use of anyone researching in these fields.

  • Journal of Experimental Analysis of Behavior
  • Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis
    Access to the tables of contents and selected abstracts of these two journals.  One article per issue is also selected for full-text access on the WWW.  Links to other online journals, most of which provide only table of contents information, are also available.

  • National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
    This is the home page for the governmental agency that conducts and supports research on mental illness and mental health.  In addition to providing information on the organization, it reviews information on a variety of topic on mental health and disorders.

  • Psych Central
    This is a general information site which includes basic mental health descriptions and definitions.  It includes the latest news in the field and links to newsgroups of interest.  It is more of a general news site than a research site, but it gives good basic information.

  • Psych Web Resources
    This site is set up for teachers and students of psychology and includes many resources of interest to those doing research in the field.  It includes online books, web-based journals and many links to different topics in psychology. 

  • PsychScholar
    This provides links to many psychology resources on the web available from John Krantz of Hanover College.

  • Social Psychology network
    This site, from Wesleyan University, provides links to over 4,000 web sites in social psychology.  It includes searching capabilities within the web site.

  • Top 20 Psychology
    This resources identifies the "best" Web sites in the field.  They also identify good research sites in specific areas of psychology, such as "Clinical", "Cognitive", "Dreams", "History", and "Psychologists".

Annual Review of Psychology
This online resources provides annual updates on what research is being done in the field of Psychology.

The Blackwell Dictionary of Cognitive Psychology. 1990.

Each definition is signed and includes a bibliography of sources for further readhing on the topic.

Companion Encyclopedia of Psychology.   2 vols. 1994.
(REF BF 31 .C66 1994)
Extensive essays on psychology.  Grouped under general topics (i.e. cognition) each article is written by "an acknowledged authority" and includes a lengthy bibliography.  Volume 2 has a detailed subject index.

The Corsini Encyclopedia of Psychology and Behavioral Science.  4 vols.  2001.  (REF BF 31 .E528 2001)
A four-volume encyclopedia, international in scope, which covers important terms and concepts in articles written by well-known authorities.

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). 4th ed. 1994.  (REF RC 455.2 .C4 D54 1994)
The basic resources published by the American Psychiatric Association that defines and is used to assist in the diagnosis of mental disorders.

Dictionary of Psychology
Oxford University Press publication available through Oxford Reference Online.  It is listed under "Politics and Social Sciences".

Edited by Raymond Corsini, this is a basic dictionary to terms in the field of psychology.

Encyclopedia of Multicultural Psychology 
Sage publication available through CLICnet.

Encyclopedia of Psychology.  8 vols.   2000  (REF BF 31 .E52 2000)
This set, published by the American Psychological Association and Oxford University Press, is the basic set for the field.  Articles are written by authorities in the field and include extensive bibliographies.

Encyclopedia of Psychology
A good basic resource which provides articles on several general topics, such as "Paradigms and Theories", "Career", and "People and History".  This free web site provides a search box to find articles on specific topics.

International Dictionary of Psychoanalysis.

A basic dictionary with short definitions of psychology terms.

The International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences.  2001.  26 vols.  (REF H 41 .I58 2001)
A major encyclopedia in the field.  Each in-depth article is signed and includes cross-references and a bibliography of resources.  Volume 25 is an index to names in the publication, and volume 26 is a subject index to the set.
