Physical Education Methods Resources

There are four steps to the research process:

1. Thesis or topic statement.
All research begins with a topic statement.  If you don't know what you're looking for, you will not recognize it when you find it.  The topic statement should be specific and brief.  As you examine the resources it will either broaden or narrow.

2. Identify keywords.
You will use these to locate material on your topic

3. Select resources to locate material
Ask a librarian in person at the reference desk, phone, e-mail or set up a consultation with a subject librarian to determine a search strategy to locate the best books, journal articles, and web sites on your topic.

4. Evaluate and select the best material
The six criteria for evaluating resources are:

Authority
Currency
Coverage
Accuracy
Objectivity
Relevancy
