On the second floor of Opus Hall, immediately inside the library entrance, Randall VanMeter, Bill Zych, or Linnae Weinrich and their able assistants will help you with circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan services. In addition, they will be able to answer your general questions and provide change for copiers.
The first floor of the library houses the majority of library resources, including back issues of journals, ERIC documents, reference and circulating materials, and computers to access online resources, or use Word, Excel, or other productivity software.
The reference librarians will be available to guide you through the research process, either on a walk-up basis, or through a scheduled appointment of longer duration. Appointments are encouraged, and can be arranged for small groups or individuals either as a general orientation to resources, or for a specific research topic.
The first floor of the library houses an array of print and non-print curriculum materials, including the children's literature collection, the curriculum materials collection, a collection of class projects from past students, as well as the 'Make and Take' room for the creation of classroom projects. The Ellison Letter Machine, located in the Make and Take room, can be used to cut out letters, geometric shapes, and other forms for use on bulletin boards etc. You may view a list of the dies in our Ellison collection (library ID: 8407, password: Keffer#). The library provides construction paper, markers, crayons, glue, etc. for use in the Make and Take room.
In addition, there is a computer available to evaluate educational software, and create curriculum materials. These resources are available during all library hours.
The library includes ample space for individual and group work in common areas. Five group studies are also available, and can be reserved in advance. Each group study has a computer and white board.
The library has three computer classrooms, two with PCs and one with Macintosh computers. There are multimedia computers for scanning, converting material to digital format and for use with specialized software. There are also PCs and Macs in the public area set aside for research purposes.
Three photocopiers and one microform reader/printer are available for public use. The copiers are part of the print management system, and the machine upstairs will accept coins. Change for that machine is available at Access Services. The copiers downstairs can be used for large scanning projects (example: scanning items for a portfolio). Check with the technology assistant at the desk for help.
Access to our web-based library databases is available from home or office; (UST Libraries Online Databases) a link to the directions for off-campus users can be found in the menu on the left side of this page. There are guides to help you get started with your research on the Research Guides for Education page. For additional information about these services, please consult a Keffer librarian.
