  • A Companion to Media Studies (covers issues such as feminist media, media history, the future of theory, digital capitalism, power, agency, popular culture, race, and intellectual property).
  • A Companion to Television (a collection of original essays that chart the history of television from its inception to the present day).
  • A Companion to Cultural Studies (addresses key topics in the field and cultural studies around the world).
  • A Companion to Racial & Ethnic Studies (offers a comprehensive overview of contemporary debates and issues, surveying the status of race and ethnic studies).
  • International Encyclopedia of Communication (a definitive reference source that spans the breadth of communication studies, including coverage of theories, media and communication phenomena, research methods, problems, concepts, and geographical areas.)
  • Oxford Encyclopedia of Rhetoric
    (a comprehensive survey of one of the Western world's oldest disciplines. It is the most wide-ranging reference work of its kind, combining theory, history, and practice, with a special emphasis on public speaking, performance, and communication).

    Books

    Finding books: search the online book catalog for books on your topic (in-depth, broad coverage, a variety of aspects).

    •  Search for books through CLICnet, the online book catalog for UST and other ACTC libraries.  Books can be requested from other campuses and will be delivered to the St. Thomas library of your choice.  UST students, faculty, and staff may use their UST ID cards to check out as well as place holds on books from other libraries in the CLICnet system. Searching CLICnet can be done in a number of ways, including:
    • By Author (last name first)
    • By Ttile
    • By Keyword -- combine search terms with "and" connector:
      -- eating disorder and body image
      -- rap and hip hop culture
      -- first ladies and press

    • American Rhetoric
      A gateway to useful resources, including full transcribed text and streaming audio of numerous famous and important speeches. 
    • Communication Bookmarks
      Includes directories, organizations, books, journals, colleges and departments of communications Web sites, communication courses on the Web, non-academic communication Web sites, debate and forensics, and public relations.
    • Communication & Rhetoric Information Sources
      Categories of links include: communication organizations, major communication collections, conferences, and programs.
    • History of televised debates
    • PopCultures.com
    • A guide to cultural studies and popular culture on the Internet 
    • Rhetoric Resources
      From the University of Iowa; links to all-things-rhetorical.
    • Virtual Institute of Information
      Web site created by the Columbia Business School. The emphasis is on media and communication resources.
    • Yahoo Social Science: Communications
      Includes many links including conferences, forensics, media ethics, media literacy, organizations, public speaking, resources, rhetoric, speechwriting,  and a links to indices of communication resources on the Web.
