Calhoun County Historical Society

The Calhoun County Historical Society has created guides to assist researchers who are not able to visit. They have books for sale such as: Census records, cemeteries, marriages, obituaries, clubs, lodges and fraternal organizations, naturalization records, biographies, and other items of interest.

Materials in the collection include: census data, and organization records. They will copy single pages for a small fee, but books of resources are also available for sale.

Evanston Historical Society

The Evanston Historical Society contains information regarding local history. Their collection contains census data, maps, city directories, photographs and other materials that could be of use in researching Luxembourg American’s in the region.

Materials in the collection include: books, census data, church histories, church records, diaries, family histories, immigration records, letters/correspondence, manuscripts, newsletters, newspapers, organization records, legal documents, art work, audio tapes/CD, memorabilia, photographs, and videotape/DVD/Film.

Rogers Park / West Ridge Historical Society

The Rogers Park / West Ridge Historical Society mission is to preserve and promote the history of the Rogers Park/West Ridge area. Early settlers to the are included Luxembourgers. The society has published two books on the area and may be able to aid researchers in locating information on Luxembourg Americans in the area. Reproduction of photographs is available for a fee.

Skokie Public Library

The Skokie Public Library collection contains an index of the books Luxembourg Brotherhood of America; Luxembourgers in the New World; St. Peter Catholic Church; Skokie, Illinois, St. Peter Catholic Church, 1868-69 to 1993-94 which is available online at http://www.skokiehistory.info/combined/index.html. They also have an online searchable photographic archive at http://www.digitalpast.org/.

Wilmette Historical Museum

The Wilmette County Historical Society collection includes the book, Luxembourg Brotherhood of America, 1887-1987, ed. Richard J. Witry, that includes a chapter on Wilmette members, a banner from the Gross Point chapter of the LBA dated 1916, and two membership plaques from the same period. In addition, the holdings consist of information about some of the families with Luxembourg backgrounds, including the Doetsch, Heinzen, Hoffman, Loutsch, Rengel, and Sesterhenn families.
