Letter & Scrapbook Collection

History:
The College of St. Thomas managed a Navy V-5 (basic flight training) program out of the Albert Lea, MN airport from July 1942 – August 1944. The program grew out of the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA) program the college was involved with prior to World War II which was operated out of Wold Field in Minneapolis. John Madigan, a CST physics professor, managed the program.
Scope and Content:
Materials contained in this collection were collected at the Navy V-5 Reunion. It includes a scrapbook maintained and letters by members of the CST V-5 program to Ruby Turtness as well as photographs taken by a member of the V-5 program.

The scrapbook and letters were collected by Mrs. Nils (Ruby) Turtness and photocopies provided by her daughter for this collection.The photo album pages were provided by Samuel Price.
