Biography:  

Fr. Byrne was born on November 28, 1858 in Savage, MN.  He was the first person from the St. Paul/Minneapolis diocese to study at the Propaganda in Rome and was the first native-born priest ordained for the St. Paul diocese.  After his ordination on February 17, 1883, he served in the Immaculate Conception parish in Minneapolis before becoming secretary to the Bishop and later Chancellor of the diocese. 

In 1892, he was named president of the College of St. Thomas a post in which he served in until 1894 when the Seminary split from the College and was incorporated into a separate entity. 
In September 1899, Byrne was appointed pastor of St. Patrick's parish in St. Paul.  He served in several other parishes in the Twin Cities including as pastor of St. Luke's for 26 years.  He died on June 12, 1942.
