Media Resources Collection

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I obtain a video for use in my class?

Browse the Media Resources Collection (OSF Room 309) and check out what you need

  • Search CLICnet by title, keyword, author, subject, etc.

NOTE: DO NOT use the "Request" button in CLICnet.

If you find the video in CLICnet, options are:

  • Come to the Media Resources Collection (Room 309 OSF) to check out the video
  • Use the "Request a video for your classroom" form.

Please allow time for processing/shipping -- at least five days for Keffer or Ireland pick up.

Unless search is limited to UST in CLICnet, videos from other libraries display in results.  Request these by calling the Media Resources Center.  Online requests for videos from other libraries are not possible at this time.

To schedule for use through the semester:

  • Provide the Media Resources Collection staff with a list and videos will be scheduled for you.
  • Submit your request via e-mail (include full title, call number, date needed and pick up location) or fill out the online request form.

Please note some restrictions:

    • Faculty can request that videos be sent to the OSF, Keffer, or the Ireland Libraries.  Requests sent between campuses will take longer to fill.  Please allow enough time.
    • Faculty teaching at locations other than the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses may check with their department coordinator. For questions, call the Media Resources Collection (651-962-5447).

What do I do if the video I need is not in CLICnet?

Search the Old Media Catalog.  If found, note the video number.

There are two ways to check these out:

  • Come to the Media Resources Center to pick up.
  • Call ahead (651-962-5447) to have video held for you.

Place a request using the "Request a video for your classroom" form.

General Checkout Procedures: Check out using your St. Thomas ID.

Note: If you send a student or some other representative to pick up the video, we will need to have a photocopy of your ID and a signed  authorization.  You may want to come in person the first time to be sure you are in the library's systems.  If you want to let others check out materials on your behalf, we will have you fill out a permission form.

What if the video I need isn't owned by St. Thomas?

Media Resources Collection staff first try to obtain the video from another CLIC library.  Video holdings for most CLIC libraries are in CLICnet. If the video is not available from the Consortium, we may consider purchasing a copy of the video (if available.), please contact Media Resources Librarian 25464.

How do I place orders for the purchase of new videos for the UST collection?

Our mission statement and collection development goals emphasize collecting that will "support the curriculum and the intellectual development of St. Thomas students, faculty and staff."   To recommend materials for purchase, contact the Library liaison from your department, the Media Resources Librarian, or fill out the Media Purchase Request Form from the Media Resources Collection web page.

How do I put videos on Course Reserve in the Media Resources Room for viewing there?
Faculty can place on course reserve material from the collection as well as personal items for viewing by students in individual viewing carrels or the group facility.  Personal videos must be legal (i.e. copyright compliant) copies.  Materials must to be brought in at least two weeks before needed to ensure adequate time for processing.

Requests can be placed online by filling the Place a Video on Course Reserve Form or by filling the print Reserve form available in the Media Resources Room (OSF 309) and at the OSF general circulation desk.

Note: The Keffer Library Access Services Department (962-4642) is also able to place video resources on reserve.)  A request form must be filled out for each item. Items are processed in the order in which received and will be made available as soon as possible.

Note: We are not able to place media materials from other schools on reserve.  If a UST library does not have what you want, you may put a personal copy on reserve or send a purchase request to the Media Resources Librarian or to your Library Liaison. Remember that it can take up to two months to receive and prepare an item.

Who may check out or view items in the Media Resources Collection?
