Archival Copies of UST Author Publications
Guidelines for Purchasing
The libraries have made an effort to acquire two copies of most books published by University of St. Thomas (UST) authors. One copy generally resides in the circulating stacks and the other resides in special collections. In addition to putting a strain on other purchasing, it also takes substantial space. Finally, there are materials that are written by UST authors which do not match with the Library’s Collection Development Manual.
Those might include consumables, textbooks and materials of a non-scholarly nature.
In an effort to put some structure to the purchasing of these items the following guidelines were approved by the Collection Management Committee:
All requests for items to be purchased for the Archives must be approved by and submitted to acquisitions by the University Archivist.
Monographs (scholarly and works of literature) written entirely by one or more UST faculty will be purchased for archives.
Collections of essays, etc., with faculty contributors or editors are purchased only if a number of UST people have contributed.
Subject liaisons will be consulted as to whether they also want to purchase a circulating copy.
Non-scholarly works and other faculty-related publications can be purchased for the stacks by subject liaisons; however, the Archivist must approve the purchase of these items for the Archives.
