Copying/Faxing/Scanning/Printing Policy

Copying/Faxing/Scanning/Printing Policy (Draft)

The Libraries' various facilities provide equipment for our users to copy, scan, and print documents of various kinds on a self-service basis. This policy exists to define what services users can expect from library staff in this area.

Copying

The Libraries have copy machines available in the various facilities.  Copiers are equipped with Equitrac keypads for users to log in with UST ID numbers (students) or department budget codes (faculty/staff for official business). Student copier and printer use is tracked with the Equitrac software and usage is deducted from the student's semester quota of 400 impressions; copies or prints in excess of that are billed to the student's account. Most keypads are equipped to only accept one type of code: see instructions on the machines or consult with staff at the Technology or Circulation desks. Persons without current UST NetIDs who wish to print can purchase print cards (with code numbers); inquire at the Library's Circulation Desk about purchasing and using print cards.

Staff will assist/instruct users in the operation of the copiers, but will not copy materials for users.

Faxing

The Libraries generally do not have fax machines available for general use.  Members of the community should plan to get their faxing done during normal business hours at the St. Paul or Minneapolis Service Centers.

Exception: OSF Library Circulation staff may fax materials for library users after normal business hours, depending on the quantity of material to be faxed and the availability of staff.

Scanning

The Libraries have scanners available for use in some of the facilities. Scanners are most typically directly attached to the computers from which they are operated.  Consult with staff at the Technology or Circulation desks for the location of and assistance with operating the scanners.

Staff will assist/instruct users in the operation of the scanners, but will not scan materials for users.

Printing

The Libraries have laser printers available for use in the various facilities. Printers are accessible directly from the library computer workstation if the user is logged in with their UST NetID and password.  Students are subject to their normal semester print quota (currently 400 impressions are "prepaid" via student tuition and fees); usage is tracked by the Equitrac system and amounts above the quota are billed to the user's student account. Persons without current UST NetIDs who wish to print can purchase print cards (with code numbers); inquire at the Library's Circulation Desk about purchasing and using print cards.

Staff will assist/instruct users in the operation of the printers, but will not print materials for users.
