Periodicals Assistant I

Duties:

  • Check-in, process and track journal and newspaper issues using library database. 
  • Retrieve, sort and deliver library mail. 
  • Maintain shelves, record usage statistics, process and shelve new and recently used periodicals.  Shift volumes as necessary.
  • Provide assistance to patrons at Periodicals Service desk in locating print and online journals, use of photocopiers, and microform equipment. 
  • Assist in assembling periodicals for shipment to the bindery, proof and process new volumes when returned from the bindery. 
  • Assist with office tasks (filing, labeling, researching titles, etc.). 
  • File microfiche and microfilm. 

Requirements:

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Previous library experience helpful, but not required.  Must be precise and detail-oriented. 
  • Must be reliable and able to work scheduled hours for the entire semester. 
  • Must be able to work with patrons in a courteous, helpful and patient manner.
  • Tasks vary greatly ? must be flexible and able to work with library materials, book carts, boxes, etc. 

Days/Times:

  • Flexible schedule includes days, evenings and weekend shifts. At least 10 hours per week.
