Music Resource Center Assistant I
Duties:
The Music Resource Center (MRC) houses the circulating and reserve collections of scores, recordings, and music-related videos. MRC Assistants provide basic service to the patrons of the MRC under the supervision of the MRC Supervisor during the weekdays and by themselves on evenings and weekends. This includes but is not restricted to the following duties:
- Helping patrons to find music materials (scores, recordings, videos) in CLICnet (local online union library catalog) and on the shelves
- Performing basic circulation duties using the circulation module of CLICnet
- Maintaining an accurate daily log of MRC activity.
- Shelving materials using the Library of Congress call number system, and keeping the shelves in good order and the MRC neat
- Assisting patrons in the use of MRC playback equipment and computers
- Answering basic directional and collection-related questions, including answering phones and routing calls
- Assisting the MRC Supervisor in daily tasks and with special projects
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of classical music repertoire preferred
- Service-oriented, good people skills
- Detail-oriented
- Self-starter, ability to work independently, responsible
- Experience using online library catalogs and/or other library experience preferred
Days/Times:
Minimum 8 hrs/wk commitment during the hours the MRC is open; some evening and weekend work required
