The University of St. Thomas

Libraries and Departments

General introduction to the UST Libraries

We hope that by reading this handbook, you will be able to make the library experience more pleasant and understandable to the people who come here for help. The more YOU know about the library, the better you will be able to understand how and where your specific duties fit in.

It is important to know that to many library patrons, anyone working in a library is a "librarian," and therefore, library users will ask you for help with a variety of questions. Some things you may be able to answer but when you are unsure, always refer them to library staff. Be sure to be attentive to the answers given, for you will continue to learn in this way.

Many users may be hesitant to ask for assistance and oftentimes just wander around the library, unsure of what they want or where to look.  Because of cases like these it is important for you to remember to be approachable - let them know that you are willing to try to help them.

On the following pages you will find brief descriptions and locations of each of the departments in the library, as well as other University offices that are housed here.

Please don't hesitate to ask for further information or clarification whenever you have questions!
