Charge for Collection Management and Services (CMS)
In support of teaching and learning, the staff of Collection Management and Services (CMS) acquires responsibly, catalogs accurately, preserves and insures access to library resources and collaborates in the development and maintenance of the libraries’ electronic, print, audio-visual and microform collections.
To accomplish this charge we:
- Coordinate and contribute to the selection and de-selection of library resources
- Allocate and manage the libraries’ materials and operating budgets
- Acquire library resources from appropriate sources
- Negotiate and manage library licenses and service contracts
- Build and maintain the libraries’ online catalog and contribute to other bibliographic databases
- Process physical items for use
- Collaborate with others to insure access to electronic resources
- Compile and analyze statistics related to holdings, usage and costs
- Collaborate in the preservation of the collections
- Provide metadata for library and university web initiatives
- Assist library staff and patrons
