Collection Management Mission

The Collection Management Committee (CMC) coordinates the process of developing, managing and evaluating the libraries' collections.  CMC will investigate issues concerned with collection use and preservation in consultation with appropriate staff. Emphasis is given to enhancing access to and continuing the assessment of library resources. This committee serves in an advisory role to the Director of Libraries. Decisions are generally made by consensus, but may, in rare instances, require referral to the Library Management Team. The Chair of the committee is appointed by the Director.

  • Annually, coordinate the decision making process for allocating available funds for roundtables and disseminate information to the roundtables
  • Manage desiderata process for expensive items
  • Serve as advisory group for the serials review process
  • Develop guidelines for the selection and de-selection of library resources, including major gifts
  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the collection management process
  • Assess and advise on preservation issues related to the collections
  • Assess departmental policies and procedures vis-a-vis collection issues
  • Respond to proposals for new academic programs and accreditation requirements in light of their potential impact on library collections.

Membership:
Representatives from each roundtable, Ireland Library and Schoenecker Law Library, Library Management Team (LMT), Media, Serials, Special Collections/Archives and Virtual Services are members of CMC. Staff representing the following departments are encouraged to attend as appropriate: Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation and ILL. The meetings are open to all library staff.
