Where can I plug my laptop into the UST network? CLIC, ILL, Reserves and Checking out Materials Where do I check out books? Q: What services can I get at the new InfoCommons? Reference assistance – Library staff will be present on both Level 1 and the Lower Level to help you with your research. Computer assistance - Trained students will staff the Lower Level at the service desk to assist you with your technology questions. InfoCommons roamers will supplement the student staff and be available immediately for your questions. Student staff will wear IRT name badges -- watch for them! Wireless access -- Wireless access is available throughout the library. Visit the the IRT website at www.stthomas.edu/software/wireless to get instructions on how to connect to wireless. Signal strength in OSF Library is particularly strong on Level 2 and Lower Level, as well as on the patio just outside the library. Software CD checkout -- Students can check out Mathematica and Minitab at the Reserve Desk on the first floor. Faculty and staff can check out Microsoft Office for take-home use here as well. Equipment checkout - Portable equipment formerly checked out from Foley Theater will move to the library Reserve Desk. This equipment includes laptops, LCD projectors and video cameras. Course Reserves – Reading materials on reserve for courses can still be found at the Reserve Desk as well. Group study - Group study rooms are available on Level 3: Rooms 312A, 312B, 321 and 322; and Level 4: Rooms 403, 405, 421 and 422. Level 1, Lower Level and Sub Level are all designated group study floors. Do not expect these areas to be quiet. For quiet study… Quiet Study – With the exception of group study rooms on Levels 3 and 4, Levels 2, 3 and 4 are designated quiet study areas. Disk recovery - If you have an unreadable document on a disk, bring it to the service desk on the lower level, where we will try to fix the problem and retrieve your documents. Test scanning - The bubble test scanner formerly located in the Learning Center has been moved to the Circulation desk, at the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center. Library services – Books can be checked out at the Circulation desk on Level 1, recent periodicals and newspapers are located in the great room on Level 2, and videos and DVDs can be checked-out and viewed at the Media Center on Level 3, room 309.
Q: Where are the comfortable chairs? The library has lost none of its comfortable chairs. Many have moved to Level 2. Also, the O’Shaughnessy Room (the “Leather Room”) on Level 1 has comfortable leather chairs and sofas.

Q: Where are the vending machines? All vending machines are now located just outside the library, down the stairs at the lower Level tunnel entrance.

Q: What type of money does the copier take? Cash – 10 cents per copy Copy card (for sale for $5 at the Circulation desk) – 7 cents per copy

Q: Where can I plug my laptop into the UST network? Level 1 , in Room 102, the area outside the O'Shaughnessy Room (the “leather room”), and in the O'Shaughnessy Room.
Q: Do you have network cables I can use to plug-in my laptop?Yes . They are available for checkout and in-library use at the Reserve Desk.
Q: Where are the assistive technology workstations? Level 1, past the Reference and Information Desk, near the upright book display case and on Level 3 , in Room 308 . The scanners at these workstations are for assistive technology only and are NOT available for general use.
Q: Where can I use a scanner?There are several computers on Lower Level with scanners. These are available for general use.
Q: I have used OEC LL17, what lab do I use now for a class?LIB 208 has 32 PC computers, an instructor’s machine and LCD projector. You can reserve this room by contacting Facilities Scheduling.

Q: Where do I check out books? At the Circulation desk on Level 1.
Q: Where do I go to check-out materials on reserve for my class? The Reserve Desk, next to the Circulation desk on Level 1.
Q: Where do I check-out & watch a VIDEO/DVD on reserve? At the Media Resources Center,on Level 3 in Room 309.
Q: I can’t find a book on the shelf but it’s listed in CLICnet as “Available.”Go to the Circulation desk for assistance.
Q: Do you have music CDs or audio books? Music CDs are available at the Music Resource Center in Brady Educational Center on South campus. The library does not have audio books.
CLIC is a consortium of private colleges and universities in the Twin Cities that share an online library catalog (CLICnet) and library materials. In addition to St. Thomas, the following institutions are part of CLIC: Augsburg, Bethel, College of St. Catherine, Concordia, Hamline, Macalester, and Northwestern.
Q: How do I request a book from another library using CLICnet? Click on the red “Request Item” button at the top or bottom of the screen while in the record for the book you want. Complete the information asked for. (You will need your UST ID to do this.)
Q: I tried requesting an item on CLICnet and it won’t let me- why? Some materials may not be requested through CLICnet: -Periodicals, Reference, and Reserve items
Q: What if the book I am looking for is not available in CLICnet? You can request books that are not available in the CLIC consortium via Inter-Library Loan (ILL) at: http://www.stthomas.edu/libraries/osf/depts/ill/forms.htm
Q: Where do I pick up CLIC requests & Inter-Library Loan (ILL) materials? At the Circulation desk
Q: How long do CLIC requests and ILL items take to arrive? If the item is a CLIC request (not technically “ILL”) it usually arrives within 1-3 days.
Most ILL articles cost $1.00 each.
Q: When I request an article through ILL, do they send me the whole journal? No, you receive a photocopyof the article you request, not the entire journal.
Q: Can I request a DVD/CD-Rom through CLICnet? Most libraries do NOT loan DVDs/videos to students via CLICnet but the materials can be viewed at those institutions. Augsburg and BethelDO circulate their videosvia CLICnet. UST DVDs/videos can be checked out at the Media Resource Center, Room 309. CD-Roms are often circulated when they accompany books; they may, however, need to be requested separately.
Q: Can I get a DVD/CD-Rom through ILL? As with other types of requests, you should try finding the item at a CLIC library first. If this is not possible, then you can try to request the item via ILL. This type of item is often difficult to get via ILL, however, and may take some time to arrive. In some cases, the item may not be available at all.
Q: Can I check-out a book directly from another CLIC library? Yes , as long as you have a valid UST ID.
Q: Can I return books from other CLIC libraries here? Yes.
Q: Can alumni check out books? Yes, with an Alumni card. Any UST graduate is eligible; apply at the Circulation desk.
Q: Can neighborhood residents check out books? Neighbor cards are available to residents within a limited boundary. Go to the Circulation desk for more on restrictions and to apply for the card.
Q: How many books can I check out? There is no limit for students, faculty & staff. Alumni & Neighbors can check out six items.
